ABOUT
US
DoD STARBASE Pensacola is a premier educational youth program, sponsored by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs. We are located onboard the stimulated aircraft carrier, the "U.S.S. Ambition", on Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola.
At DoD STARBASE Pensacola, students participate in immersive “hands-on, minds-on” activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art/Design, and Mathematics (STEAM) designed to build curiosity, confidence and critical thinking skills. Our 25-hour program focuses on creating a unique and meaningful learning environment that sparks a lifelong interest in STEAM. Throughout the school year, we support our local Escambia County School District; serving over 1,500 fifth graders annually. Students work in teams to explore, explain, and evaluate concepts including Newton’s Laws, robotics, the engineering design process, Computer Aided-Design (CAD) and more. They investigate STEAM careers and engage with active and retired military personnel, including members of our hometown U.S. Navy Blue Angels team!
DoD STARBASE Pensacola strives to be an active part of our community and we participant in a variety of local and community events (i.e. STEM nights, street festivals). During the summer, we offer several free-of-charge STEAM-based camps for 5th-8th graders and provide outreach to on-base youth centers.
